Battery Test and Analysis Engineer

We are looking for a dynamic, organized and self-starter engineer to join our Power Systems & Controls Development (PS&CD) team.

As an Associate Engineer, you will serve as an individual contributor on complex and exciting projects that will support Electrification and Advance Power Systems (EAPS). You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and documenting standard technical test instructions used in the validation and development of Battery System technologies. Day-to-day work will involve converting test plans to test instructions, collaborating with lab engineers in the lab to execute testing, analyzing the data, and evaluating the performance against success criteria which will ultimately be used in making product decisions.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining accurate single-line diagrams for various test setups that will consist of battery cells, battery modules, battery strings/packs, battery simulators, DC-DC converters, etc.

This development and testing work is dynamic and fast-paced with opportunities to grow and develop.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s or master’s in Electrical, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering.
Desired to have coursework or experience in understanding Li-Ion battery systems operation.
2 to 4 years of relevant experience in the development, validation testing, and integration of Battery systems, Battery Management Systems, or controls system

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for Battery system test plan execution. Day-to-day work will include

Selected candidate will be involved in Battery Cell, Battery Module and Battery pack testing (5V to 1500 V systems)
Analyzes and monitors data/reports to ensure the quality of test data collected
Evaluate and summarize results and make design and performance recommendations to the design team
Calibrate and validate BMS settings in controls software
Improve operational efficiency via test automation
Develop scripts to automate data analysis
Collaborate with test technicians for test & equipment set-up
Review test plans/FMEA controls and write test instructions
Collaborate with the global engineering team with data sharing & analysis
Responsible for meeting lab test plans on time
Follow, and advocate safe build/set-up/test procedures

Technical skill set /tools

Experience with MATLAB or Python coding for data analysis and interpretation
Understanding & experience with BMS and Li-Ion Battery systems
Experience/understanding of Li-Ion battery basics and safety
Experience with communication protocols and tools like J1939, CAN, TCP/IP Modbus, CANape, CANcase
Battery cycler systems & test sequencers: NHR9300, Enerchron, Arbin, Bitrode
Work experience in Vehicle batteries & testing, Electronics battery sensor algorithms testing will be an added advantage
Experience in the development and deployment of test strategy, test architecture and test automation
The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills to work in a global environment
