The fastest-growing segment of India's EV workforce — service technicians, charging-station installers, battery operators — doesn't need a degree. What it needs is structured certification, hands-on training and the right entry point. Here's how to build a career.

Roles that don't need a degree

  • Charging station installer and service technician
  • Two-wheeler and three-wheeler EV service technician
  • Battery assembly line operator
  • Battery swap station operator
  • EV warehouse and logistics handler
  • EV PDI and final inspection technician
  • Battery recycling plant operator
  • EV roadside assistance technician

Certifications that actually count

ASDC (Automotive Skills Development Council) runs the National Occupational Standards for EV technician roles. Their Level 3-5 NSQF-aligned certifications are recognised across every OEM dealer network and most major service operators.

DIYguru is the largest EV academy in India with 200+ partner labs and AICTE-approved certifications. Their EV powertrain, BMS and charging-infra courses route directly into placement at Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, Ather, Ola Electric and more.

Realistic earnings

Entry-level roles start at ₹2-3.5 L / year. Two to three years of experience plus an OEM-issued certification puts you in the ₹4.5-8 L band. Senior service technicians and team leads earn ₹8-14 L. Workshop managers — typically 5-10 years in — clear ₹15 L+.

The fastest path in

  • Pick one category (2W service, charging install, battery assembly) and complete an ASDC Level 4 certificate.
  • Add one OEM-specific badge (Tata, Mahindra, Ather, Ola, Hero).
  • Apply through the DIYguru placement cell or directly to your local dealer / service centre.
  • After 2 years on-job, take Level 5 / supervisor-level training and target a workshop-lead role.

Where to go from here

Degree-less candidates have more leverage in the EV industry than in most other sectors. The right certifications convert into stable work and steady advancement. Pick your track, get certified, and apply through the right channel.
