India's EV industry clusters in four cities, each with a distinct flavour. Pick the right one and your job hunt is half done.

Bengaluru — startups, software, charging

Ather Energy, Bolt.Earth, Battery Smart, Sun Mobility, Vecmocon, Magenta Mobility and most software-led EV companies are here. Best city for embedded, cloud, data, ML, product and design roles. Salaries are 15-20% above the national average for senior software.

Pune — Tier-1, ARAI, automotive heritage

Bajaj Auto EV, Tata Motors (Akurdi + Pimpri), ARAI, Bharat Forge, Sona Comstar BLW and a dense Tier-1 ecosystem (Bosch, Continental, Schaeffler, Valeo). Best city for power electronics, motor design, manufacturing, validation and homologation roles. ARAI is the single biggest concentration of EV test expertise in India.

Chennai — manufacturing, OEM scale

Hyundai India EV R&D, Ola Electric's gigafactory at Krishnagiri, BYD India and an established automotive supply chain. Best city for battery manufacturing, vehicle assembly, supply chain and OEM-scale engineering.

Delhi-NCR — policy, charging, fleet

Tata Power EZ Charge, ChargeZone, Statiq, Battery Smart, Sun Mobility, ICAT (Manesar) and most fleet operators are headquartered here. Best city for charging-infra, fleet ops, policy roles and government-adjacent work.
