EV Jobs for Electrical & Electronics Engineers — Where the Money Is
Electrical and electronics engineers have the deepest demand of any branch in India's EV industry. Here's where to focus and what each role pays.
CEO - eMobility.Careers
If you trained as an electrical or electronics engineer, you've landed in the EV industry's most under-supplied talent segment. Every OEM, Tier-1, charging operator and battery startup is hiring across power electronics, BMS, motor control, charging hardware and embedded systems. Here's how to pick where to focus.
Power electronics — the rarest and best-paid
Traction inverters, on-board chargers, DC-DC converters and DC fast chargers all need engineers who understand SiC and GaN devices, gate-driver design, magnetics and thermal management. Senior roles pay ₹35-90 L; principal-level architects land ₹55 L-1.4 Cr.
BMS hardware + firmware
BMS engineers split into hardware (analog front-end, isolation, MCU board) and firmware (state estimation, balancing, ISO 26262 safety). Both tracks pay ₹15-75 L depending on seniority. ISO 26262 ASIL-D experience adds a clean 20% premium.
Motor design and control
Motor designers run Ansys Maxwell / JMAG simulations and partner with manufacturers on stator and rotor geometry. Motor control engineers implement FOC, MTPA and field-weakening on automotive MCUs. Both pay ₹12-50 L.
Charging hardware
AC / DC / MCS charger designers earn ₹20-60 L. CCS-2 and ISO 15118 plug-and-charge expertise is increasingly the differentiator.
Embedded software
Embedded engineers work on VCU, telematics gateway, BMS firmware and ECU integration. AUTOSAR + C / C++ + CAN tooling = ₹12-55 L depending on level.
How to position yourself
- Pick power electronics, BMS or motor control as primary depth.
- Add CAN / AUTOSAR and ISO 26262 fundamentals as secondary.
- Build a portfolio project — Simulink BMS model, FOC simulation, or a SiC vs Si converter comparison.
- Target Tier-1 suppliers (Bosch, Continental, KPIT, Tata Elxsi) for structured training and OEM exposure.
Where to go from here
Electrical and electronics engineers are the most-courted profile in India's EV market. Pick one of these tracks and stick with it for 24 months — you'll come out as a high-leverage senior in a market that's still expanding 30%+ per year.
