Credential + career-track guidance

Strongest path to think-tank senior fellow: graduate degree (TERI School, IIM-B PP, JNU CSRD, or global — HKS, Oxford Blavatnik, Sciences Po) + 3-5 yrs of published research + active conference-circuit participation.

Strongest path to consulting principal: MBA (top-tier Indian or global) + 6-8 yrs of EV-domain casework + a strong personal brand on EV policy questions (Substack, opinion pieces in The Hindu / Mint / EPW).

Strongest path to government / bilateral seats: combination of think-tank research + consulting + at least one stint inside a multilateral programme. Civil-Services-entry routes (UPSC IES / IAS / IRS) are slower but converge to the same senior tier eventually.

Where to go from here

EV policy analyst compensation in India spans a wide band depending on which institutional track you choose. Consulting pays the most cash, think tanks pay the most influence, government + bilateral roles pay the most career-stability. Most senior policy leaders cycle through 2-3 of these tracks over a career; the ones with diverse signalling beat the single-track candidates for the most senior seats.
