The EV industry has more remote-friendly roles than you'd expect. Here are the categories that hire remote, the companies that offer it, and the salary trade-off.

EV manufacturing and service roles need to be on-site, but software, data, design, marketing, sales-ops, content and product-management roles are increasingly remote in India's EV industry. Here's where to find them and what to expect.

Remote-friendly role categories

  • Embedded / cloud / mobile software engineers (hybrid; 2 days office, 3 remote is common)
  • Data scientists and ML engineers (full remote at startups)
  • Product managers (hybrid)
  • UX and visual designers (full remote)
  • Performance marketing, content marketing, SEO (full remote)
  • Customer success and sales operations (hybrid)
  • Recruitment (remote-friendly)
  • Technical writing and documentation (full remote)

Companies that hire remote in EV

Bolt.Earth, Statiq, Numocity, Vecmocon, Magenta ChargeGrid, Battery Smart, Sun Mobility and several charging-tech startups are remote-friendly. Tata Elxsi and KPIT run hybrid for software roles. Ather, Ola, Tata Motors EV are office-default but make exceptions for senior specialists.

Pay parity

Remote-role salaries are at parity with hybrid for senior individual contributors. For junior roles, remote pays 10-15% less because companies amortise hiring + training cost differently. Hardware-adjacent software roles (embedded, controls) still default to hybrid because lab access matters.

Where to go from here

Remote work is easier in EV than in classic automotive but harder than in pure SaaS. Target the right role categories, the right startup-stage companies, and don't expect remote to be standard at OEMs.
