EV engineering resumes follow a recognisable structure that recruiters and hiring managers scan in 7-10 seconds. Get the structure right and the rest of your CV gets a fair read. Here's the template that works.

Recommended structure

  • Top — Name, contact, LinkedIn URL, GitHub if relevant
  • Headline — 1-line summary matching the JD (e.g. 'BMS Firmware Engineer | ISO 26262 ASIL-D | 6 years')
  • Summary — 3-4 sentences with measurable outcomes
  • Skills — 6-10 EV-relevant technical skills, role-matched
  • Experience — reverse chronological, outcomes-first bullets
  • Education — degree + institution + year
  • Projects — 2-3 with brief description + link if available
  • Certifications — AICTE, ASDC, SAE, ISO 26262 etc.

Keyword strategy

Most companies use ATS that ranks resumes by JD-keyword density. Mirror the JD's vocabulary: 'AUTOSAR Classic' not 'AUTOSAR', 'BMS firmware' not 'battery software', 'AIS 156' not 'battery safety standard'. Use the same case and acronym style.

Bullet pattern — outcomes over duties

  • ✗ 'Worked on battery management system firmware'
  • ✓ 'Shipped BMS firmware for 2-product line covering 45,000 vehicles; reduced false-positive fault triggers 78% via Kalman-filter retuning'
  • ✗ 'Responsible for inverter design'
  • ✓ 'Designed 22-kW DC-DC converter using SiC MOSFETs; achieved 97.2% efficiency at 12-kW load, beating BOM target by 8%'

Common mistakes

  • Sending one generic CV to every role
  • Skipping the headline (recruiters scan it first)
  • Listing certifications without dates
  • Putting hobbies above projects
  • Overusing buzzwords ('passionate', 'team player', 'detail-oriented')

Where to go from here

A good EV engineering CV is 1-2 pages, role-matched per application, and outcome-rich in bullets. Spend 30 minutes per application customising — it triples interview-callback rate over generic submissions.
