Battery Engineer Salary in India — Entry to Senior Brackets

Battery is the highest-demand specialism inside India's EV industry. Within battery there are five distinct sub-tracks, and the pay differs surprisingly. Here's the breakdown that recruiters won't give you upfront.

Cell engineering

Electrochemistry-heavy work — formulation, coin-cell builds, formation cycling. Bands: ₹8-12 L entry, ₹15-25 L mid, ₹30-55 L senior, ₹55-90 L principal.

Pack engineering (mechanical + electrical)

Mechanical pack designers earn ₹6-9 L entry, ₹12-22 L mid, ₹22-40 L senior. Electrical pack engineers (busbars, fuses, contactors) overlap with BMS hardware and trend ₹1-2 L higher per band.

BMS hardware

Schematic capture + cell-sensing AFE + isolation barrier design. Bands: ₹8-12 L entry, ₹14-25 L mid, ₹25-50 L senior, ₹50-80 L lead.

BMS firmware + algorithms

State estimation, balancing, ISO 26262 safety. The pay is at the top of the battery tree because supply is rare: ₹9-14 L entry, ₹16-28 L mid, ₹28-60 L senior, ₹60 L-1.4 Cr lead.

Battery thermal + safety

Thermal engineers earn ₹15-32 L mid-career, ₹32-65 L senior. Safety engineers (AIS 156, HAZOP, abuse testing) trend 10-15% higher because of regulatory criticality.
