EV service technician interviews are practical-first. Most OEMs and dealerships will combine an oral interview with a hands-on diagnostic test. Here's the question set you'll face — and the test you should be ready for.
HV safety (5)
- Walk through your LOTO procedure before opening a battery pack.
- What PPE do you wear for HV work?
- How do you verify isolation before touching live components?
- What's the role of the MSD / service plug?
- What do you do if you detect a thermal-runaway smell on a serviced pack?
Diagnostics (7)
- A customer reports their EV won't power on. Walk through your diagnostic sequence.
- How do you read DTCs on a Tata Punch EV?
- Customer complains of reduced range. What's your investigation?
- How do you test a charger that's tripping the breaker?
- Walk through inverter fault diagnosis.
- How do you check cell-imbalance from the OEM scanner?
- What's your sequence when a vehicle reports a 'service required' lamp?
Customer + workflow (5)
- How do you explain a complex repair to a non-technical customer?
- How do you handle a customer who insists their warranty should cover a non-covered repair?
- Walk through your DMS workflow for a job card.
- How do you maintain first-time-right scores?
- What's your sequence when a part you need isn't in stock?
Where to go from here
If you've got an OEM-issued certification (Tata, Mahindra, Ather, Ola, Hero) lead with it. Bring printed copies of your ASDC and OEM certifications. Be ready to demonstrate using a multimeter, insulation tester and the OEM diagnostic scanner if the interview includes a workshop component.
