How to Build a Professional Network in the EV Industry
Networking in the EV industry isn't about adding strangers on LinkedIn. Here's a 90-day plan to build a real network that opens job opportunities.

Networking is the single highest-leverage activity in any career, but most professionals do it badly — collecting LinkedIn connections without building real relationships. Here's the 90-day plan that actually works for the EV industry.
Week 1-2 — Map your existing network
List 30 people you already know who are at least one connection away from EV companies — ex-classmates, ex-colleagues, dealers, customers, vendors. Most candidates underestimate this list. You'll be surprised who can introduce you.
Week 3-6 — Reactivate
Reach out to 5 people per week with a short, specific note. Don't ask for a job. Ask for a 20-minute conversation about their work. Bring one specific question per conversation. Always end with: 'Who else should I talk to?'
Week 7-10 — Show up offline
Attend the right events: Auto Expo, SAE India events, ARAI seminars, DIYguru meet-ups, local IEEE Power Electronics chapter meetings, ICAT open-house days. One in-person event delivers 10x the connection density of a month on LinkedIn.
Week 11-12 — Add value first
Share something useful — a market report you summarised, a JD template, a regulatory update — into your now-warm network. The people who help others first compound their network 3x faster than the askers.
Sustain — once you've started
- Post one substantive thing per week on LinkedIn (not job-search posts)
- Reach out to 2 new people per week with a specific reason
- Attend at least 1 event per quarter
- Stay in touch with your top 20 connections through a quick monthly note
Where to go from here
A good network feels effortless after 12 weeks because you've shifted from cold-asking to warm-asking. Most senior EV professionals will say yes to a 20-minute conversation when a mutual connection refers you. Build that bridge consistently.
