Building a PWM control tool taught me more about automotive safety than any textbook could. Over the past few months at BlueBinaries, I've been working on embedded control development for Electro-Pneumatic Parking Brake (EPPB) systems — an ASIL-D safety-critical component, meaning failure isn't an option. One piece I got to own: a GUI-based PWM control tool for solenoid valve actuation. Sounds simple until you're tuning parameters across 12V and 24V architectures and realize how much the hardware-software boundary actually matters. A signal that looks clean on paper can behave completely differently once you factor in valve response time, power draw, and real MCU timing constraints. What stuck with me most: in safety-critical systems, "it works" isn't the bar. "It works, every time, even when something goes wrong" is. That mindset shift — from feature-building to fail-safe thinking — has changed how I approach every embedded project since.
