Ansys is the dominant multi-physics simulation suite at Indian EV OEMs + Tier-1 suppliers. Whether you're modelling a battery thermal runaway, optimising motor electromagnetics, or running crash simulation on a battery pack, you'll work in some Ansys product. Here's the practical roadmap by EV-engineering specialism.

Pick the right Ansys product for your specialism

  • Ansys Maxwell — electromagnetic simulation. Motor design, transformer design, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
  • Ansys Fluent (CFD) — battery thermal management, cabin HVAC, charging-station thermal design.
  • Ansys Mechanical — structural FEA. Battery-pack crash, motor-housing stress, vehicle-body NVH.
  • Ansys LS-DYNA — explicit dynamics. Crash + impact simulation for battery-pack containment.
  • Ansys Twin Builder — system-level simulation. Pairs with Maxwell + Fluent + Mechanical for multi-domain models.
  • Ansys Battery Wizard / Ansys Battery (Granta + Fluent integration) — battery-cell-level electrochemistry simulation.

10-week learning plan (motor-design example)

Weeks 1-2: Maxwell fundamentals via Ansys Learning Hub free courses. Learn the workbench, mesh, solver setup, post-processing.

Weeks 3-4: 2D motor simulation. Build a simple 4-pole PMSM model from scratch. Validate against published torque + back-EMF data.

Weeks 5-7: 3D motor simulation. Extend the 2D model to 3D, add end-winding effects + cooling. Compare to 2D results.

Weeks 8-10: coupled-domain analysis. Couple Maxwell to Fluent for motor + cooling-jacket co-simulation. Pair with Mechanical for thermal-stress analysis on the rotor.

Portfolio projects for each specialism

  • Motor design: 4-pole / 8-pole PMSM comparison study in Maxwell. Public report on torque + efficiency + cogging.
  • Battery thermal: pack-level Fluent CFD simulation under 150kW fast-charging. Map cell-to-cell temperature gradient.
  • Structural: battery-pack crash simulation per UN ECE R100 in LS-DYNA. Show intrusion + cell-integrity outcomes.
  • EMC: inverter EMI simulation in Maxwell with conducted-emissions analysis. Compare to CISPR limits.

Certifications + access

Ansys Certified Professional (per-product) is the gold-standard credential. ~USD 400-600 per exam.

Ansys Student Edition is free for students with valid academic IDs — covers Maxwell, Fluent, Mechanical at restricted mesh sizes. Sufficient for portfolio work.

AICTE-approved DIYguru Ansys-for-EV programme + Skill-Lync Ansys cohorts (paid but include mentor support + project review) are the Indian alternatives for non-students.

Senior-band interviews test for: simulation-vs-experiment correlation discipline, mesh-sensitivity awareness, fluency in coupled-physics workflows. Demonstrate these in interview discussions and you separate from textbook-only candidates.

Where to go from here

Ansys fluency is non-negotiable for senior-band EV simulation roles. Pick your specialism (motor, battery thermal, structural, EMC), commit 10 weeks to one Ansys product, build the portfolio project, get the cert. The combination converts mid-band candidates into senior-band offers at almost every Indian OEM + Tier-1.
