ITI graduates are the most-recruited segment in India's EV workforce — but most don't know how to take the first step. Here's the concrete roadmap that gets you from ITI completion to a confirmed EV-industry offer within 6 months.

Step 1 — Pick your track

Service (workshop), charging (field install + service), manufacturing (line operator) and battery (assembly / test). Pick one based on what's locally hireable. Most metros have all four; Tier-2 cities lean toward service + manufacturing.

Step 2 — Get the right ITI trade

  • Electrician trade — best for charging install + EV service
  • Mechanic trade — best for vehicle service + manufacturing
  • Electronics mechanic — best for battery + BMS
  • Refrigeration & AC trade — emerging niche for thermal-system work

Step 3 — Add an ASDC certification

ASDC NSQF Level 3 or 4 in EV technician roles is the gold standard. Most DIYguru partner labs run these programs in 3-6 months. Add it after your ITI completion or alongside.

Step 4 — Get an OEM badge

Tata Motors Academy, Mahindra Skill Centre, Hero MotoCorp Skill Centre, Ather Service Academy and Ola Service Academy all run OEM-specific certification programs that route directly into their service networks. One OEM badge typically adds ₹50,000-1,50,000 to your starting CTC.

Step 5 — Apply through the right channel

  • DIYguru placement cell (if you trained there)
  • OEM service centre walk-in (carry your ITI + ASDC + OEM badge)
  • Local dealer service workshop
  • DDM / RTI department of state transport for bus depot roles
  • Direct walk-in at charging operator depots (Tata Power, Statiq, ChargeZone)

Step 6 — Build seniority

After 2-3 years on-job, take ASDC Level 5 (supervisor) and shoot for workshop-lead or shift in-charge. Those roles pay ₹8-14 L and open the door to management tracks.

Where to go from here

ITI to EV is one of the most direct career paths in India today. Follow the six steps in order — ITI, ASDC, OEM badge, targeted apply, then build seniority — and you'll be in a stable, growing role within 6 months of completion.
